About us

Laboratory for Social Medicine

The idea of teaching humanities and social subjects came in 1985 when Study of Social Sciences was set. On the base of the Study, in 1991 was set Department of Social Medicine headed up by PhD Jolanta Domaniewska till 2016. Till 2019 the Department had been interdepartmental. Now, under the new title: Laboratory for Social Medicine runs on Faculty of Medicine.

In 2021 a head of Laboratory became Prof. Aldona Jankowska, after retiring by former head of Laboratory- PhD Waldemar Kwiatkowski. Prof. A. Jankowska had headed Laboratory for Medical Communication so now these both Laboratories are merged.

Our mission: Revealing the social-cultural, ethical and philosophical dimension of: health, illness and medicine. Searching for new solution of patients’ social issues and bioethical dillemas of medicine. Putting up relations and models of communication between medical stuff-patient and its holistic and axiologically perspective.
