SRC Medical Biology and Biochemistry

Students belonging to the Student Research Club (SRC) of Medical Biology and Biochemistry participate in scientific meetings and practical laboratory sessions. The scientific activity focuses on issues related to oxidative-antioxidative balance, endocrine function of adipose tissue, markers of inflammatory state, melatonin, vitamin D, and medical parasitology. Members of SRC Medical Biology publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, present papers, and posters at national and international scientific conferences. During practical laboratory sessions, they perform determinations using spectrophotometric and immunoenzymatic (ELISA method) techniques. They also carry out microscopic observations.

Student Research Club of Medical Biology and Biochemistry operates under the Department of Medical Biology and Biochemistry (address: Karłowicza 24 Street, 85-092 Bydgoszcz).

Students interested in participating in the Student Research Club of Medical Biology and Biochemistry are encouraged to contact the supervisors or the representative of the scientific club.

Selected Achievements of the Student Research Club of Medical Biology and Biochemistry:

In the academic year 2023/2024, the Student Research Club (SRC) of Medical Biology and Biochemistry achieved 2nd place in the category of Best Student Research Club at the Faculty of Medicine of CM UMK, and 4th place among all Student Research Clubs operating at CM UMK.

1. Titles of research projects carried out as part of Student Scientific Research:

• Assessment of melatonin levels against the backdrop of neuroinflammation in patients with ischemic stroke
• Assessment of tumor necrosis factor-alpha and interleukin 31 levels against the backdrop of neuroinflammation in patients with ischemic stroke
• Evaluation of the level of advanced glycation end-products and antibodies against oxidized low-density lipoproteins in patients with neuroendocrine tumors
• Assessment of oxidative and nitrosative stress markers in the blood of patients with neuroendocrine tumors
• Evaluation of inflammatory state parameters in the blood of patients with Parkinson’s disease
• Assessment of selected adipokine levels in the blood of patients with Parkinson’s disease
• Assessment of melatonin and leptin levels in the blood of patients with Parkinson’s disease
• Evaluation of adiponectin and resistin levels in the blood of patients with Parkinson’s disease
• Correlation of vitamin D levels to the activity of antioxidative enzymes in the blood of healthy individuals
